How to Share a Screen Recording as a Link
Record your screen on Windows, polish it, and send an unlisted link instead of a large file. Compare link sharing in ScreenBuddy and Loom, with real limits.

Quick answer
To share a screen recording as a link on Windows, finish the edit in ScreenBuddy, click Share a link in the editor’s top bar, sign in with Google, and choose Create link. The finished MP4 uploads and you get an unlisted screenbuddy.xyz link that anyone can open in a browser without an account. Links need a subscription and do not include comments or viewer analytics.
Best for
- Sending a finished tutorial, demo, or bug report to someone who just needs to watch
- Avoiding email attachment limits and “can you re-send that file?” threads
Not the best fit for
- Collecting timestamped comments or seeing who watched
- Videos that must stay private to named people: anyone with the link can watch
Finish the edit before you share
A link shares the finished video, not your project, so treat it like an export. Trim the setup, check the zoom on each click, review the captions, and cover anything private. Play the whole recording once at normal speed. If you change something after sharing, create a new link; viewers of the old link keep seeing the old version until you delete it.
Create the link from the editor
Click Share a link in the top bar. The first time, choose Continue with Google and sign in with the account that has your subscription. Pick Higher detail for small interface text or Smaller file for a quicker upload, give the video a title, then click Create link. ScreenBuddy shows three stages, Render, Upload, and Publish, and then Your link is ready. Click Copy link.
Know what the viewer sees
The link opens a ScreenBuddy playback page in any modern browser, on desktop or phone. Viewers do not need an account or an app. The page is unlisted and kept out of search engines, but it is not password-protected: anyone who has the link can watch it, forward it, or save a copy. Do not use a link for anything that must stay with named people only.
Storage, length, and playback limits
A subscription includes 2 GB of storage for shared videos. There is no cap on video length or on the number of videos, as long as they fit in your remaining storage. Delete old videos from Manage videos to free space. Playback is metered: if one account’s videos are watched past a daily data budget, the page shows that the video is resting until the next day (UTC). Local exports are never affected.
Links or Loom?
Loom is built around sharing: instant links while you record, comments, reactions, and viewer insights. ScreenBuddy is built around the finished recording: automatic zoom, a smooth cursor, callouts, and local captions, with a link as the last step. If the conversation around the video matters most, Loom fits better. If the video itself has to look finished, record and polish it first, then share the link.
What happens when a subscription ends
If you cancel, you keep uploading until the end of the period you paid for. After that, existing links keep playing for another 30 days, and then the hosted videos are deleted. Videos you exported and projects on your computer are not affected, so keep your own copy of anything important.
Prefer to host the file yourself?
You can always export an MP4 and upload it to YouTube (as unlisted), Google Drive, OneDrive, your help center, or your own site. That gives you their sharing controls and analytics. Exporting also needs a subscription; recording and editing are free.
