Open or paste captions
Choose an existing UTF-8 .srt or .vtt file, or paste its text. No upload is needed.
Check and review
Review line-numbered errors, overlapping cues, and any formatting that will be removed. Fix errors before downloading.
Download and test
Download the converted file and play it with the original video. Conversion preserves cue times; it does not correct speech or synchronization.
Convert a caption file without uploading it
SRT and WebVTT store caption text alongside start and end times. This converter changes the file structure while keeping supported caption wording, line breaks, cue order, and millisecond timing. It is useful when your video player or learning platform asks for a different format. Try the included example first, then check your own captions before publishing.
What changes between SRT and WebVTT?
SRT normally numbers its cues and writes timestamps such as 00:00:03,250. WebVTT begins with WEBVTT and uses a dot: 00:00:03.250. WebVTT can also carry positioning, styles, regions, and voice annotations. Those features need special treatment when moving to a simpler caption file. This tool explains the loss and requires your acknowledgment before producing plain-text captions.
Check overlaps and formatting before download
An overlapping caption can be intentional, particularly when two speakers appear together. The converter reports overlaps and out-of-order starts as review warnings rather than changing your timing. Invalid timestamp ranges, missing caption text, and malformed cue structure block the download. Caption formatting warnings also block conversion until you explicitly accept the plain-text result.
