Welcome to ScreenBuddy ("we," "our," or "us"). ScreenBuddy is a Mac and Windows desktop application for screen recording and editing, with an accompanying website at https://screenbuddy.xyz. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it, and what choices you have regarding your data when you use ScreenBuddy. By downloading, installing, or using our application or website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

ScreenBuddy is designed with local media processing at its core. Recording, editing, zoom effects, annotations, backgrounds, previews, and exports happen on your Mac or Windows PC. ScreenBuddy does not upload your video files to our servers. Internet access is required for Lemon Squeezy license activation and for application update checks.

Information We Collect

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the ScreenBuddy website, we may automatically collect certain information about your visit, including:

• Usage analytics — page views, performance data, and general website interactions collected through Vercel Analytics, Vercel Speed Insights, and, only after you select "Allow analytics," Google Analytics 4.
• Device and browser information — general device type, browser type, and operating system information collected through analytics services.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be clear about what we do not collect:

• Video content — your screen recordings, edits, previews, and exports are processed locally. We do not upload, access, store, or view your desktop-app video content on our servers.
• ScreenBuddy account profiles — the desktop app does not require a ScreenBuddy account. License activation sends the entered license key and device-related activation data to Lemon Squeezy, which may return the purchaser email associated with that license.
• Financial information — Lemon Squeezy handles checkout and payment details. ScreenBuddy does not receive or store your full payment-card details.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• Service delivery — to provide, maintain, and improve the ScreenBuddy application and website experience.
• Analytics and improvement — to understand how users interact with our website, identify areas for improvement, monitor performance, and optimize user experience.

Analytics Cookies

We use analytics services to understand how visitors use the ScreenBuddy website:

• Vercel Analytics — collects anonymized page view and interaction data to help us understand traffic patterns and user behavior. Vercel Analytics is privacy-focused and does not use cookies for tracking individual users across sites.
• Vercel Speed Insights — collects performance data such as page load times, Core Web Vitals, and rendering metrics to help us optimize site speed and user experience.
• Google Analytics 4 — collects website events, campaign attribution, and a pseudonymous analytics client identifier only after you select "Allow analytics." Checkout links may carry non-identifying source, campaign, landing-page, CTA-placement, and operating-system fields to Lemon Squeezy for order attribution; the pseudonymous GA client identifier is included only with analytics consent. Marketing events exclude email addresses, license keys, video content, and other directly identifying input.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling cookies may affect certain features of the ScreenBuddy website.

Third-Party Services

ScreenBuddy relies on several third-party services to deliver its functionality. Each service has its own privacy practices and policies. Below is a detailed description of each service, what data it processes, and how it is used:

Vercel (Hosting, Analytics & Speed Insights)

The ScreenBuddy website is hosted on Vercel. We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymized usage data (such as page views, visitor counts, and geographic regions) and Vercel Speed Insights to monitor performance metrics (such as page load times and Core Web Vitals). This data helps us understand usage patterns and optimize site performance. Vercel processes server logs which may include IP addresses, but these are not stored long-term or used for individual tracking. For more information, see the Vercel Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics 4 (Consent-Based Analytics)

Google Analytics 4 is loaded only after you select "Allow analytics." It helps us measure downloads, tool-to-app journeys, campaign performance, and consented purchases. Non-identifying checkout-attribution fields may be attached to Lemon Squeezy checkout links for order reporting whether or not GA consent was granted; a pseudonymous GA client identifier is attached only after consent. Lemon returns those fields with its signed order webhook, and the purchase is forwarded to GA only when the checkout recorded granted consent. We do not intentionally send email addresses, license keys, video content, or form text to Google Analytics. You can decline analytics or change your choice through the website's privacy controls. Lemon Squeezy (Checkout and License Activation)

Lemon Squeezy operates the hosted checkout, order delivery, and license activation service. Checkout data is governed by Lemon Squeezy's terms and privacy practices. When you activate or deactivate a license, the app contacts Lemon Squeezy's license API with the license key and activation data required to manage that license. A successful response may include the purchaser email stored with the order.

Browser Tools

ScreenBuddy's free tools run in your browser. Recordings, uploaded source media, generated captions, calculations, and downloaded files stay on your device. The current MP4-to-GIF tool uses browser canvas processing. Browser and operating-system permission prompts still control access to your screen, camera, and microphone.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers — data may be processed by Vercel for hosting and performance, Google Analytics after consent, and Lemon Squeezy for checkout and license management, as described above.
• Legal requirements — we may disclose your information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
• Business transfers — in the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via a prominent notice on our website of any change in ownership or use of your personal information.

Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information:

• Encryption in transit — all data transmitted between your browser and the ScreenBuddy website is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS). This includes any data sent to third-party services.
• Local video processing — desktop-app video content is processed on your Mac or Windows PC. License activation and update traffic do not include your recording media.

While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data.

Data Retention

Because ScreenBuddy does not require user accounts, we retain minimal data. Specifically:

• Analytics data — Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights data is retained according to Vercel's data retention policies, which typically aggregate and anonymize data over time.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
