Long
Feature piece, "about the app" section
ScreenBuddy is a screen recorder and product demo editor for Mac and Windows. Capture a display, window, or area with microphone audio and an optional webcam, then trim the recording, refine cursor movement, add zoom effects and captions, and export locally. Build a quick walkthrough, a tutorial, an onboarding video, or a launch film with scenes, branded templates, and camera effects when the story needs them. It runs on macOS 12+ and Windows 10+ (64-bit), and was built by solo developer Jiabin Shen, who launched it in February 2026. A project is a storyboard of scenes you reorder by dragging, drawn from 45 title and media cards plus motion beats, shots and whole-video starters — 75 places to begin, every one of them following a brand kit of six named text styles, a logo pair and up to 12 saved themes. The Lens gives it a physically modelled depth of field from f/1.4 to f/16, aimed at a focus anchor you place or let follow the cursor. Captions are transcribed in English on the machine — on Apple silicon Macs, Intel Macs and Windows alike — and voiceover is recorded per scene in the editor. A one-time license starts at $49.99, with no subscription. Future updates are included in the current offer.
Four things worth checking
The claims a reviewer would most reasonably want to test, stated plainly so you can hold the app to them.
Every frame is recorded, not generated
ScreenBuddy edits footage you captured; it does not generate product imagery. Captions use an on-device English speech model. An optional local server, off by default and bound to loopback, lets you connect your own AI agent to the editor; export remains a manual action.
The brand kit propagates
Six named text styles, a light and dark logo pair, up to 12 saved themes. Restyle the Title and every title already on the timeline changes with it, in the preview and the export alike. It takes about thirty seconds to check.
Nothing is uploaded
Capture, editing, caption transcription, preview and export all run locally. The network is used for license activation and update checks only. There is no cloud hosting and no viewer analytics.
One-time price
$49.99 one-time license. Future updates are included in the current offer. There is no monthly or annual tier.
Screenshots
Every image links to its full-resolution original. Dimensions are native — nothing here is upscaled. These were shot in August 2026 and show the previous editor chrome; a set covering the current release is being re-shot. Ask if you need one sooner.
