ScreenBuddy was born out of personal frustration. As a developer who frequently creates tutorials and product demos, I—Jiabin Shen, the creator of ScreenBuddy—kept running into the same problem: recording my screen was easy, but making those recordings look professional meant switching between multiple tools and workflows.
I wanted to add zoom effects to highlight what I was clicking on. I wanted beautiful backgrounds instead of my cluttered desktop. I wanted annotations to guide viewers through each step. But to get all of this, I had to record in one app, edit in another, and export in yet another—or pay for expensive subscriptions to bloated video editing suites that did far more than I needed.
None of those options felt right for screen recordings. I didn't need a full-blown video production suite—I needed a focused, native macOS app that handled recording and editing in one place, and did both exceptionally well. So I built one. ScreenBuddy started as a personal tool and evolved into something I'm proud to share with the world.

Hi, I'm Jiabin Shen—a developer, maker, and the person behind ScreenBuddy. I build tools that solve real problems I encounter in my own workflow.
