Choose ScreenBuddy if you also record on an Apple silicon Mac, want a magnifying callout bubble, or want local captions in more than one language.

Choose ScreenBuddy

Make the next step clear.

You record on Windows and sometimes on a Mac, want a glass callout bubble that magnifies small controls, need captions generated locally in several languages, or want privacy covers suggested by a local scan.

Choose Rapidemo

Keep the strengths you need.

You only use Windows and want animated multi-shot camera layouts, one-click animated subtitles, speaker notes while recording, or a perpetual license instead of a subscription.

Both are free to try the same way

Rapidemo and ScreenBuddy both let you record and edit without paying, and both ask for payment when you export. That makes a fair test easy: record the same short task in each app, make the same corrections, and only then decide which result you would publish.

Where Rapidemo is stronger

Rapidemo’s camera layouts are its clearest advantage. You can switch a clip between camera overlay, side-by-side, and fullscreen, and it animates the transition. It also offers speaker notes that only you see while recording, one-click animated subtitles, bulk exports, and shareable editor presets. If those are central to your videos, Rapidemo is a strong Windows choice.

Where ScreenBuddy is different

ScreenBuddy runs on Windows and on Apple silicon Macs under one subscription, so a team with both machines uses the same editor. Its callout bubble is a glass loupe that follows the cursor and magnifies what is under it, which keeps a small menu readable without zooming the whole frame. Captions are generated on your computer, with an optional multilingual model.

Compare the price over a year

Rapidemo lists $9 a month billed yearly for three Windows PCs, $19 month to month, or $199 once with a year of updates and $99 renewals. ScreenBuddy is $5 a month billed yearly, or $10 month to month, for exports and shareable links. Count the computers you need and how long you expect to keep the app before comparing.

Will ScreenBuddy work on your computer?

Use Windows 10/11 x64 or an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 12 or later. Intel Macs and Linux do not have a current ScreenBuddy installer. On Windows, editable cursor capture requires Windows Graphics Capture on Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later. The fallback records the system cursor and disables replacement cursor effects. Check screen, microphone, system audio, and webcam capture with your own setup before recording a full lesson.

Try the same 60-second task in each editor

Record a small menu, a text field, a short explanation, and the completed result. Use the same display size and narration in both apps. Compare the corrections you need to make, then review a finished export from each. ScreenBuddy is free to record and edit, so you can make every correction before subscribing to export.

  • Move one automatic zoom, delete an unnecessary zoom, and keep the final result in frame.
  • Trim a pause and add a pen mark without covering a control or caption.
  • Correct a technical term in the captions, then check speech and system audio.
  • Review text and cursor readability at the size your audience will actually watch.

Use MP4 for narration; reserve GIF for a short loop

An MP4 keeps speech and app sound. A GIF is useful for a short silent interaction in documentation. In our published ten-second recording sample, the tested GIF files were 13.1–17.5 times larger than the corresponding MP4 files. That is a file-format experiment on one source clip, not an app-speed benchmark or a claim of equal visual quality.
